The Adoption Process

We ensure that our adoptables are going to the best, most loving forever home through an in depth adoption process that involves home and reference checks, vet checks and a fee. Click the button below for a more detailed explanation of our adoption process.

Donations

Your generous donations ensure that we can continue this life saving and

life changing work for animals in our community!

Donations are used for the following

Veterinary Care

First and foremost, we make sure our animals receive all of the care and medical attention they need. Sometimes this can be very extensive but usually always includes flea/tick/heart worm meds, spay/neuter procedure, vaccinations, and microchipping.

Food & Supplies

We provide our fosters with as much food and supplies the animals may need, as well as any necessary medications.

Events & Marketing

Community outreach is a crucial aspect of the work we do. Your donations help support us in attending and setting up at local events to spread the word about our mission and adoptable animals. Click the button below to see our upcoming events for the year!

Who We Are

Kane

Our Inspiration

Kane is the inspiration for the rescue. He is a Bull Terrier/Pit Mix, who was put on the euthanasia list at The Franklin County Animal Shelter in September of 2020, for behavior. He had been in and out of the shelter multiple times since he was just one year old. Since September 21, 2020 he has been living his best life with the founder of Kane’s Mission in their Lyndhurst home, along with Maisy, a Pitsky; and Klaus, a Mini Dachshund.

Melissa Harvey

Founder & Board President

Melissa was inspired to found Kane’s Mission while fostering her euth listed Pit mix, Kane, through another rescue.

She grew tired and frustrated seeing so many healthy, adoptable dogs being euthanized unjustly.

After being laid off during the pandemic, she began the process of making her dream a reality, and in April of 2021 the rescue officially became a 501(c)(3) organization. Kane’s Mission has adopted out over 30 cats and dogs to date and hopes to save many more from rural and high-kill shelters.

Olivia Wilhelm

Board Vice - President

Olivia first began her rescue journey in 2021 by volunteering with her local shelter. She feels strongly about fostering and has helped 14 animals on their journey to their forever home – her goal is to foster 100 animals in her lifetime! Adopting and caring for senior dogs is her passion and she currently has a 13yr old Bichon Frise and a 1.5yr old Tuxedo cat who keeps her busy with his crazy antics. When she is not training her fosters or volunteering at events, Olivia is working as a nurse and crafting!

Lisa Verovich

Board Secretary

Lisa lives in Lyndhurst with her two dogs and one cat, all rescues. She's been volunteering with Kane's Mission since June 2023, serving as board secretary. She feels deeply about rescuing animals and is grateful to be a part of such a dedicated organization!

Helen McCormack

Board Officer

Helen is a Cleveland native with a passion for giving a voice to the voiceless. She began volunteering and joined the board of Kane’s Mission to help neglected companion animals find loving forever homes. She plans to open a farm animal sanctuary and is enjoying learning all about rescuing animals through her work at Kane's. She and her family have two black cats, Wednesday & Cam!

Adoptions are finalized after your application has been approved, a home, vet and reference check has been done and a meet & greet is successful. This can take anywhere from one week to a month.. It does vary case by case but we do work diligently to get our animals in their forever homes as soon as possible!

Adoption fees vary based on the size and needs of each animal but in general, they range between $50-$350.

Foster commitments can be anywhere from a few days to a few months. It depends on each animal and the duration of each foster is discussed before any commitments are made.

Yes. We ask that you provide information for any pet, alive or deceased, that you have had in your care for the past 7 years.

Do I need experience with animals to volunteer?

No! It can make it easier if you do but of course, it's not necessary. We also have volunteer opportunities that don't directly involve the animals. Fill out our volunteer application!

To volunteer as an adult, we ask that you be at least 18 years of age. If you are under 18, we require a parent to volunteer with you. We do sign papers for volunteer/ service hours as well!
